Charles Eason RigginsCharles Riggins 90, of Decatur, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, with his granddaughter at his side.

In addition to his parents, Tom and Eula Mae Riggins, Charles was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 70 years, Jenny; their two sons, Stephen and Stanley Riggins; one grandson, Bert Lewis, five sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by one daughter, Diana (Bob)Lewis; three grandchildren: Becca (Jacob) Anderson, Sara (Stephen) Lanza of Birmingham, and Tyler Riggins, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and one daughter-in-law, Karen Riggins.

Charles, known as “Uncle C.” to his many nieces and nephews, and as “Pa” to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who cared for him in his later years, was a kind, gentle, and loving man.  He was tirelessly devoted to his wife of 70 years, Jenny, whom he lost on January 10th of last year.  He was devoted to his family and his faith, and always worked hard to provide.  Charles and his wife Jenny were members of Brookhaven Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church, and most recently, of First Baptist Church.  Charles worked for many years in sales, including Sears, Rogers department store, Gateway Realty, and Hertz.  He was the owner and manager of the Red Coach men’s shop and The Riggins Agency.  Charles was also an avid fisherman.

The family would especially like to thank Megan Taylor, and the staff members of Decatur Morgan Home Care and Riverside Senior Living, each of whom cared for and loved on “Pa” the last several months of his life, as well as the wonderful nurses and staff of Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care.

All are welcome to attend the service on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Decatur at 1:00pm, with Reverend Jack Lovelace officiating and Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home directing.  Pallbearers are Donnie Hendrix, Brad Smith, Hunter Smith, Johnnie Smith, Keith Smith, and Stephen Lanza.  Honorary pallbearers are Larry Inman, Jerry Hendrix, Roger Hendrix, Tracy Hendrix, Leo Smith, and the members of Jim Odom’s Sunday School Class at First Baptist.

Out of concern for the spread of Covid-19, the family will not have a receiving line, and respectfully requests that guests wear a mask indoors.  A private interment will follow at Roeslawn Cemetery, with immediate family and pallbearers attending.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley Foundation, Inc., PO Box 2745, Decatur, Alabama 35602
