John Charles Anderson passed into Glory after a long illness on November 24, 2021. John was born to William and Violet Anderson on March 5, 1942 in Cambridge, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm and attended a two room schoolhouse until eighth grade. When John was in high school, the family moved to town.

John graduated with highest honors from high school and college. He earned three degrees from the University of Minnesota: BS in Dairy Science (1964), MS in Mechanical Engineering (1970) and PhD in Food Science and Technology (1975).

During his academic years, John joined the Peace Corps and worked with rice production in the Philippines. When he returned he continued his academic studies.

John met Susann at a Bible study in 1971. They got married on March 5, 1972. John finished his PhD in 1975 and while he was working for the Pillsbury Company in food product development.

John accepted a position as a food scientist for a private voluntary organization in Santa Monica, California in 1976. This began his many trips to foreign countries to help people develop better means of food production.

In 1980, John became an Associate Professor of Food Science at Alabama A&M University. He taught food technology and helped students attain a Masters degrees in areas of research and development of food products. Other projects for the university again required John to travel to foreign countries in Africa and other parts of the world.

Shortly after they moved to Huntsville, the Anderson’s became members of Westminster Presbyterian Church where John served as a faithful deacon for many years. John and Susann shared a strong interest in missions and served on the church’s missions committee, supported various missionaries and organizations, and traveled on four foreign mission trips together.

John’s daughters attended Westminster Christian Academy for their entire school education and John served for a time on the school board.

John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters – Margaret, Marie, and Karen, and three brothers – Alvin, Leroy, and Howard. He is survived by his brothers, Bill and David, his wife of 49 years – Susann Howard Anderson, his daughters – Linnea Davis (Jeff) and Kirsten Severson (Nate) and nine grandchildren – Skye, Joel, Joanna, Noah and Jerusha Davis and Will, Jay, Ty, and McKenzie Severson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Building Fund, or the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research.

A worship service to give God the glory and to remember John C. Anderson will be held on January 8, 2022 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 5744 Oakwood Road NW, Huntsville, AL. Visitation begins at 10 am and the worship service begins at 11 am. Hampton Cove Funeral Home is in charge of the entombment.
