Margaret Wandalene Raby Carter, age 89, passed away October 22, 2021, at Willow Branch Health & Rehabilitation in McMinnville, TN. She was born March 22, 1932, to John Thomas and Laura Warren Raby and grew up in the Chestnut Ridge community in Lincoln County, TN. A private graveside service was held at Melson Cemetery.

Wandalene married Mack Raymond Carter on March 25, 1950. She started public work at age 16 in a 5 & 10 store. She then worked at Fly’s sewing factory in Shelbyville, and later continued her work in sewing at The Shirt Plant, Serbin, Jonathon Logan, Lee Mfg. in Fayetteville. Wandalene was later employed at Wal-Mart, and finally retired from Carter’s Drug Store at age 75. She also worked hard at home taking care of her family. She loved to cook and was known for her cakes, pies, and hamburgers with homemade slaw. Wandalene also sewed for her family and enjoyed embroidery, cross-stitching, and crocheting. Even though she was self-taught she could sew most anything from doll clothes to costumes with creativity and imagination. Wandalene even made her daughters’ wedding gowns as well as the clothing for one whole wedding party, including the men’s suits.

Wandalene was a member of Bybee Branch Church of Christ. She loved God and loved going to church. Wandalene studied her Bible daily and had a talent for sending cards and encouraging others. She took every opportunity she could to share her love for God with anyone she came into contact.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Dianne (Stanley) Graves of McMinnville, Donna Susan (David) Casey of Taft; grandchildren, Amy (Andy) Vander-Kooi of Arvada, CO, Craig (Abby Lee) Casey of Fayetteville, Chad (Emily) Graves of McMinnville, Stuart (LaShae) Casey of Fayetteville, Caleb (Rachael) Graves of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Bailey Casey, Carter Casey, Abby Graves, Colby Casey, Ashlynn Graves, Brady Casey, Anna Graves, Lily Graves, Jacob Graves, Take Vander-Kooi, and Tavyn Vander-Kooi. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Raymond Carter, and sister, Rebecca Faye Graham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
