SSAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships Set for November 5

Southern States (@SSACsports) | Twitter OAKVILLE-Over 100 collegiate runners will make their way to Lawrence County the first Friday in November, to compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) men’s and women’s cross country championships. The championship races are held on the championship course located on the grounds of the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center and get underway at 8 a.m.

Set for Saturday, Nov. 5, 2021, the SSAC men’s and women’s cross country championships bring collegiate athletes from Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Male and female runners will attend the event representing Blue Mountain (Blue Mountain, Miss.), Brewton-Parker (Mount Vernon, Ga.), Loyola (New Orleans, La.), Mobile (Mobile, Ala.), Stillman (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), Talladega (Talladega, Ala.), William Carey (Hattiesburg, Miss.), Dalton State (Dalton, Ga.) and Middle Georgia State (Cochra, Ga.). The women’s 5K gets underway at 8 a.m. with the men’s 8K following at 8:45 a.m.

The championship course is great for spectators who want to witness competitive racing from the sidelines. Fans are asked to stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or the flu. Entry and parking are free. Championship souvenirs will be available for purchase.

Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center is located approximately 8 miles south of Moulton on Alabama Highway 157 and 1/2 mile from the Jesse Owens Memorial Park.
