John Joseph Magers John Joseph Magers, 82, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. John was an alumnus of the University of Alabama, a supporter of scholarship programs there, and a big fan of Alabama football. John retired from the United States Postal Service after 25 years of service. He was an active member of the Mail Handlers union and served as its president. He loved Dodgers baseball and backyard gardening. His hobbies included collecting coins, stamps, and baseball cards. An avid patriot, he supported law enforcement and Wounded Warriors. He also loved his grandchildren very much. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Magers; daughters, Shannon McNamee (Patrick) and Erin Stewart (Michael); son, Sean Magers; grandchildren, Eva McNamee, Olivia Stewart, Adam Stewart and Kelsey Stewart; beloved cousins, Harry Haring, Jim Haring, Nancy Patrie, Meg Lancaster, Peggy Paddock and Jane Garrison; special nephew, Vincent Magers; special niece, Julie Magers; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17th, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 625 Airport Rd. The funeral mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
