Agnes Louise Barringer Curtis, better known as “Aggie”, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the age of 96.

Aggie was born June 20, 1925 in the Elgin community and was basically a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Leoma Berringer; husband, Howard ”Buck” Curtis; son, Barry Curtis; and brother, Elmer Berringer.

She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Hawkins (Luke); sisters, “Mutt” Phillips and Mae Thornton; daughter in law, Lynn Curtis; grandchildren, Bryan Curtis (Amanda), Eric Curtis (Amanda), Matthew Hawkins (Ashley), and Michael Hawkins (Amy); great grandchildren, Coby Curtis, Carson Curtis, and James Michael Hawkins; numerous nieces and nephews.

Aggie’s hobbies include ceramics and china painting at which she was a true artisan winning many ribbons and awards at shows.  She also liked yard work, taking care of her flowers and household D-I-Y projects.

Honoring Aggie’s wishes, there will be an informal service for the family.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Kindred Hospice and Leola McIntosh and her staff at Cherished At Home for the kind, compassionate care provided to Aggie in her final days.

Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
