Mary BarksdaleMary Barksdale was born Mary Alice Goolsby on August 20, 1942 in Laurel Hill, FL to James and Lucille Goolsby.

She passed from this life and into the waiting arms of Jesus on Sunday evening, September 5, 2021, with her husband, children and loved ones close by and the comforting arms of our Heavenly Father all around her.

She is preceded in death by her special parents, James, and Lucille. By 3 sisters: Jewel, Margaret, and Peggy, and by 3 brothers: Eddie (known as Bubba), George (known as G), and Dwight.

She is survived by her faithful husband of 60 years, Robert Wayne (who was always affectionately known as Bob to Mary), her son, Jonathan, his wife Casie, and her grandchildren, Dyson and Kyndal Barksdale, all of Athens. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, David and Sharon Goolsby, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and 2 sisters and brother-in-laws, Linda and Bill Walker, of Leroy, Alabama, and Carol and Ray Lewis, of Helena, AL, along with many loving nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

Her body lies at rest at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday, Sept 8, 2021 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Her funeral will be held at Limestone Chapel on Thursday, Sept 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm, with Greg Tucker presiding. Burial and graveside will follow at Roselawn Cemetary. Those serving as pallbearers for the service are Dyson Barksdale, Chris Herring, Don Fountain, Michael Goolsby, Martin Goolsby, and Curtis Berry.

Mary lived every day of her life for the Lord, and for her family, and her lively energy, joy, and enthusiasm touched all of those around her. Mary’s life made this world a better place.
