Myrtis M. “Maggie Lee” Powell, 77, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at her residence. She attended Carter’s High School in the Carter’s Branch Community. She was retired from Golden Manufacturing Co. in Golden, MS. She joined Carter’s Branch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully as a choir member and chairperson over the Mothers’ Day Programs. She also loved Sunday School and participating in class programs when all classes re-assembled in the sanctuary (if she didn’t make you laugh, she definitely made you do a self-examination).

The family will have private funeral services. A walk-through visitation will be Friday, August 27, 6-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS. Burial will be in Carter’s Branch Cemetery, Tishomingo, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Charlotte Powell; four brothers-in-law – George Powell (Luevenia), Ezekiel Powell (Edna), John Powell (Gerniece Powell, deceased); six sisters-in-law – Christine Southward (Rev. Jimmy Southward, deceased),Virginia Bennett, Ila Powell, Margarete Robinson (Willie), Marvelene Selby, Earnestine Southward, deceased, (William); two sister-cousins – Mary (Floyd Brock) and Martha Fugua (Robert); a god-son – Tre’ Grizzard and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Evan and Bessie Southward; her beloved husband, Tommie Lee Powell and two brothers-in-law – Ben Powell, Jr. and Willie Powell (Lousie).

Pallbearers will be Randall Southward, Greg Brock, Gwen Powell, Derrick Brock, Derrick Southward, Doran Bennett, Timothy Southward, Deshun Powell, James Thorne, David Southward, Eric Powell, Craig Powell, Jonathan Powell, Jason Powell, Stephen Powell, Byron Southward and Jarvis Southward. The deacons of Carter’s Branch Missionary Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers – Houston Southward, Lenorad Brock, Flyod Brock, Bobby Powell, Marcus Robinson, Cleveland Southward, Willie Robinson, Jimmy Southward and Tommy Williams.
