FLORENCE-The Florence School system will be holding mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinics for students 12 and older. The bus route  schedule for the clinics is listed at the end of Dr. Shaw’s letter.

Florence School Superintendent Dr. Jimmy Shaw released this letter to all students 12 and older:

Falcon Family,

This is superintendent, Dr. Jimmy Shaw. This communication is only for families of students ages 12 and up. First, thank you for all that you did as families to help keep students as safe as possible through COVID.

We now have an opportunity, provided to us by the Alabama Department of Public Health and North Alabama Medical Center, to offer COVID vaccinations to students 12 and up if the family so chooses to do so. On Wednesday, June 16,  students ages 12 and up will have the opportunity to receive a free COVID-19 vaccine at Florence High School. A mobile clinic, operated by North Alabama Medical Center, will be set up at Florence High School from 9 AM to 2 PM on June 16th, in the school parking lot. To take advantage of the opportunity, students must bring a permission slip, signed by a guardian, to have the vaccine administered by nurses. This is a voluntary opportunity that we are offering to the families of Florence City Schools.

For students and families who may have transportation issues, bus routes have been established to pick students up from nearby locations and transport them back to the designated areas after receiving the vaccine. The permission form, bus route schedule, and a vaccine facts sheet can be found on our website at www.florencek12.org/health.

To be clear, it is NOT mandatory for students of Florence City Schools to receive the vaccine. We are simply offering an opportunity for families to be able to do so as we look forward to the opening of school in August.

Have a great summer.  Go Falcons!

Dr. Jimmy Shaw
