On Good Friday, April 2, 2021, our beloved mother, Virginia Ann Walker Selman, entered her eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 92. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband, James D. Selman, 24 years to the very day; her father, James Nathaniel Walker; her mother, Ollie Mae Walker; and her son-in-law, James Stanley Long. She is survived by her children; James D Selman Jr (Pam), Ann Selman Lee, Janet Selman Long, and John B. Selman (Christy). Virginia had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; Jason Selman (Sara, Aiden, Jonah), Jesse Selman (Tammy), Niki Evans Badgett (Charlie), Melissa Ann Evans (Gizatu), Daniel Guy Evans (Kristin, Andrew, Victoria), Alicia Selman Guidotti (Matt, Theo), Katie Selman Braswell (Matthew, Caleb), Jamie Selman Kirkpatrick (Tommy); as well as many cousins and friends who loved her dearly.
Mom was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama where she lovingly and faithfully served her Lord Jesus Christ as an ordained Deacon and enjoyed the fellowship of many.
She served her community and enjoyed many years of membership in the Cosmopolitan Club of Huntsville, where she loved philanthropic projects and served in various leadership and mentoring roles. She was always ready to join in a game of Bridge with various groups and would always report whether she won or was “low hand”.
Mom, we are so thankful for your life testimony of a strong unwavering faith in Christ Jesus: and for your legacy of love and strong family bonds which has rippled down through generations. Our grief will be tempered with our certain knowledge that someday we will hug you and Dad again. We love you!
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, April 5, 2021 at the First Baptist Church Chapel with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. There will be a private family graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery.
The entire family would like to express our thanks and appreciation for SouthernCare Hospice Services and Seniors Prefer Home Care (SPHC) and especially for Vershanda, who loved and provided invaluable care for our mother during this time.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Huntsville Generations Building Campaign, 600 Governors Drive or SouthernCare Hospice Services.
