Pursuit Of Stolen Vehicle Ends With Arrest By Florence Police

FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department issued a statement regarding a stolen vehicle and ensuing pursuit that ended in the arrest of one suspect:

“On March 29, 2021, officers responded to the Quik Stop at 600 N Royal Avenue to a report of a stolen vehicle.

The complainant stated he went inside the store and left his vehicle unlocked and running in the parking lot. He observed a male leaving the store as he entered. When the complainant left the store, his vehicle was gone.

Officers then received information of a matching vehicle driving reckless around Woodland Road. The vehicle had struck a light pole and parked vehicle. Officers located the vehicle around Veterans Drive and Cherry Street. The vehicle then attempted to elude officers. Officers pursued the stolen vehicle through downtown Florence until the vehicle struck a curb at the UNA campus.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Mathew Burnett, 1126 E Bluff Street Florence. Burnett was charged with Theft of Property 1st degree, Reckless Endangerment, Drug Paraphilia, Felony Attempt to Elude, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and DUI. He is being held on a $35,000.00 Bond.”
