Phyllis Jean Mitchell Phyllis J. Mitchell passed away on Sunday, February 28th, 2021 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee. She was born in Killduff, Iowa on April 21st, 1930 and was 90 years old. Phyllis, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Briggs Earp, grew up in Jasper County, Iowa and graduated from Newton High School.
She was united in marriage with T. Clayton Mitchell on March 25, 1955. Phyllis worked as a secretary at the Denniston & Partridge Co. in Newton, Iowa and Vaughan-Jacklin Co. in Downers Grove, Illinois. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandparent and great-grandparent. She was an active member in the St. Andrew Memorial Methodist Church of Pulaski participating in Sunday School, choir, UMW, and many Bible Studies. Phyllis was also a long-time member of the local FCE Club U.T. Home Extension. She enjoyed travel, reading, sewing, crafts, cooking, and gardening.
Visitation with Covid precautions will be 2:00pm to 3:00pm Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021, at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home.
A family graveside service will follow at 3:30pm at Giles Memory Gardens with Brandon Bass officiating.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Andrew Memorial United Methodist Church Back Pack Program, c/o 831 Mill Street, Pulaski, TN 38478 or the Giles County Public Library c/o 122 S. 2nd Street Pulaski, TN 38478.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Husband Clayton, and 3 infant daughters. Son-in-Law Pat Henry. Brother Thomas Edward Earp. Sisters, Nadine King, Verda Knopf, and Erdythe White along with brother and sister-in-laws.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Henry of Pulaski
Granddaughter, Lauren (Alex) Thurman of Spring Hill, TN.
Great-grandchildren, Elliott Clayton Thurman and Margot Jean Thurman.
Sister-in-laws, Marie Ward of Brentwood, TN. and Faye Mitchell of Cornersville, TN. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
