Carl Edwin Slate Carl Edwin Slate of Greenbrier, TN passed from this life Sunday, February 28, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield, TN surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier with Bro. Johnny Trail and Bro. Jon Briggs officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 4pm to 8pm on Friday, March 5th and 10am until time of service on Saturday, March 6th at the funeral home.
He was born October 30, 1936 in Greenbrier, TN to the late Novella Howard Slate and Jack Martin Slate. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Slate; sister, Peggy Browning and grandson Cody Adcock.
He was married to the love of his life, Shirley Moore Slate for 65 years. He was a baseball coach in Greenbrier for nearly 20 years, serving several of those years as District Director for Dixie Majors Baseball. During that time, he helped shape the lives of many young men. He was very proud of each and every one of them. In the past, he served as a dedicated member of the Lion’s Club in Robertson County. He also served as a Robertson County Highway Commissioner for 12 years. He was a General Contractor for over 50 years and was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Slate; son, Steve (Sheila) Slate; daughters, Sherry Adcock, Karen Jackson and Cindy (Ed) Stansberry; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and sister, Patsy Nevels.
