MORGAN COUNTY-Morgan County District Attorney Scott Anderson announced today that Frederic Allen Rogers, 23 years old of Woodville, Alabama, and John Michael Legg, 20 years old of Hartselle, Alabama, were indicted by a Morgan County Grand Jury this week for six counts of Capital Murder.  District Attorney  Anderson said he will seek the death penalty for two men indicted last week in the deaths of seven people at a house in Valhermoso Springs on June 4.

The defendants are currently being held without bond at the Morgan County Jail.
In June of 2020, deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call at a home in Valhermoso Springs. Upon arrival, deputies located seven deceased individuals with gunshot wounds. Some of the victims had been partial burned in a fire ignited by the defendants. Investigators with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of multiple agencies involved in the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, charged Rogers and Legg with Capital Murder. Rogers and Legg were located in Marion County, Oregon, and were brought back to Morgan County later that month.
The indictment returned by the Grand Jury charges the defendants with six counts of capital murder for causing the deaths of Tammy England Muzzey, James Benford, Jeramy Roberts, Roger Jones, William Hodgin, Emily Payne, and a juvenile female, during the course of a robbery (Count I), pursuant to one scheme or course of conduct (Count II), during a burglary (Counts III-V), and during the commission of an arson (Count VI).
Anderson also announced that he intends to seek the death penalty against both defendants.
