Christie Hancock McSwain

Mrs. Christie Hancock McSwain, age 96, of Trimble Community passed gently into eternity from her home on February 21, 2021. Christie was married to Orvel McSwain who predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by her children, Lawrence (Luenett) McSwain, Linda Williams, Connie Allen and Bobby (Cindy) McSwain who surrounded her with loving care during her last hours. She was blessed to be the grandmother of Sean McSwain (Laura), Lisa McSwain Lee (Jamie), Jason Williams (Karen), Keith Williams (Kim), Jennifer Allen, Jimmy Allen (deceased), Brook McSwain Berg (Bill), and Brittany McSwain Tucker (Whitney). Christie also enjoyed the love of her 20 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sister Lexie Hancock McSwain, and survived by brother- in- law Theron McSwain and several nieces and nephews. Christie grew up in Brushy Pond Community to parents Maburn and Audra Stricklin Hancock (deceased) and spent her childhood years there. She later married Orvel McSwain in 1942 just prior to his being deployed for three and one-half years to Europe during World War II. After the war, Christie and Orvel made their home in the Crane Hill Community for several years prior to moving to Trimble where they lived on the family farm the remainder of their lives. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. Except for a short career as a hair dresser, Christie was a housewife who stayed busy raising her children, enjoying her grandchildren, and assisting with the chores of farm life. In their retirement years, Christie and Orvel traveled out west with family members to attend military reunions and to visit several national parks. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who made each child and grandchild believe he or she was her favorite. Mrs. McSwain’s funeral arrangements are being managed by Moss Service, Cullman, with a Graveside Service on Wednesday February 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Cullman City Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Christie’s cousin the Rev. Dillon Calvert. The family will receive friends at the cemetery for the service.
