JoAnn Jacks Cataldo JoAnn Jacks Cataldo went to join the Lord on February 21, 2021, passing away of heart failure at age 88.

Jo Ann was an accomplished artist of nature and wildlife scenes, from her home on Monte Sano. She was born on November 30, 1932 in Gardendale, AL to Claude Gilbert Jacks and Annie Estelle Moore Jacks.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Claude Gilbert Jacks Jr., and a daughter, Marla Ann Cataldo Cassady.

She is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, Charles Eugene “Gene” Cataldo; two sons, Charles Eugene Cataldo, Jr. (Rebecca) and Stephen Anthony Cataldo (Christy), and a daughter, Angela Lynn Pullen Atherton (John); three grandchildren, Emma Ross Pullen, Shannon Maria Cataldo and Winter Lynn Cataldo; her brother’s children, Deborah Jacks Lundquist (Joe) and Timothy Gilbert Jacks (Vonna); and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

JoAnn and Gene married on September 2, 1952 in Gardendale and moved to Huntsville making their residence on Monte Sano in 1957. After working a short time at Thiokol, she excelled as an artist and became a co-owner of The Art House Gallery on Governors Drive in Huntsville.

Besides raising her own children, she took others under her wing whenever she felt she was needed. JoAnn had more than her immediate family calling her “Mom”. Many children were drawn to her kind and caring disposition. Although she is gone, she will never be forgotten.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Hill Cemetery. Masks are required for personal safety. Two of her most beloved step-granddaughters, Cassandra and Madalyn Atherton will be singing at the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
