John Paul “Red” Hollis

John Paul “Red” Hollis, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, TN.  Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Chandler Funeral Home in Vernon, AL.  Burial will follow at Furnace Hill Cemetery.

Red was born on May 13, 1934, in Lamar County, AL, to the late Forney Lewis and Annie Grace Graham Hollis.  After graduating high school, he lived and worked in Indiana, Alabama, and Texas before settling in Columbus, MS, where he met and later married his wife of 53 years, Stella Ward Hollis. They have one daughter.  Red and Stella continued to live in Columbus until 2020, when they moved to Arlington, TN to live with their daughter and son-in-law.  In his prime, Red enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing, and golfing.  He loved spending time with family and friends, and watching any kind of sport imaginable!  Red was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Lewis Hollis; and two sisters Doris Ann Taylor and Lou Ella Knight.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Hollis of Arlington, TN; daughter Kay Petersen and husband Cristian; two sisters, Mary Bennett of Sulligent, AL and Clara Piel and husband Walter of Odessa, TX; and five nieces and six nephews.

Due to Covid precautions, the family respectfully requests that all in attendance wear masks, social distance be maintained and close contact be kept to a minimum.
