FLORENCE-Artistic Renderings of Youth, a juried exhibit of work by 7th through 12th grade artists from Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties, will be on display at Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts in Florence from March 1st through March 31st, 2021. The exhibit, founded by Florence art educator Jerry Foster, is celebrating its 30th year.

This year we are maintaining  social distancing precautions and invite the public to meet the young artists and their teachers at exhibit viewings that will take place over the course of three evenings as follows:

Thursday, March 4th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m:

Muscle Shoals Middle School, Muscle Shoals High School, Sheffield Middle School, Sheffield High School, Deshler Middle School, Deshler High School and Covenant Christian School.

Friday, March 5th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m:

Florence High School, Florence Middle School, Florence Freshmen Center, Shoals Christian School, St. Joseph’s School, Brooks High School, Mars Hill Bible School, Rogers High School, any Home School students and independent entries.

March is nationally recognized as Youth Art Month, and this exhibit provides an opportunity for the community to discover the young artistic talent in our area. The competition is coordinated by middle school and high school art teachers to give students a chance to exhibit their artwork and receive recognition for their talent.  This year artwork representing 19 different schools will be exhibited. Ribbons are awarded in three grade divisions: Division 1:7th and 8th grades, Division 2: 9th and 10th grades, and Division 3:11th and 12th grades.

Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is located at 217 East Tuscaloosa Street in Florence and is open, free of charge, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Museum programs are made possible, in part, by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. This event is sponsored by the Florence Department of Arts and Museums.  Call 256-760-6379 for more information.
