Mary Geneva Yerbey

Mary Geneva Yerbey, Florence, Al, died peacefully on February 17, 2021 at home with her family by her side.  She was born March 18, 1935 to Leonard and Carrie Holloway South.

A drive by visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in Greenview Memorial Park, by the Garden of the Open Bible from 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. with burial to follow at 1:30.

Geneva grew up in Florence Alabama and Marked Tree, Arkansas.  She attended Weeden and St. Michaels Catholic School.  She married Jack Yerbey in 1952 prior to his mission in the Korean War. Together, they had one daughter and son, Angela and Jerry Yerbey.

Geneva was a devoted mother and foster mother to many children.  She was “Foster Mother of the Year” in 1984-85. She had a big heart for children and never turned anyone away.  She loved her family.

She retired from ECM Hospital in 1999. She was a faithful member of Helton Dr. Church of Christ.  After retirement she devoted time to her many talents as an artist and writer, having many short stories published about her life growing up during the Great Depression.  She loved to laugh and be with friends and family at the beach.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry; her parents and siblings, Christine, Barbara, Shirley, Shelby; infant sisters, Opal, Lester, Chester; and infant brother Joseph; niece and nephew, Rhonda Baskins and Tony Arnold; Special friend, David McGee.

Survived by her daughter, Angela Yerbey Reathiford (Michael);brother, Harold South;  granddaughter, Robin Davis (Brandon); nieces, Sonya Blackstock and LaFonda Montgomery; great granddaughters, Brinlea and Piper Davis.
