State Trooper Injured In Pursuit Of Suspect Near Athens

ATHENS-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued a statement regarding injuries received by a State Trooper in the  pursuit of a suspect on Friday:

“At approximately 4 p.m. Friday, February 12, a Trooper with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) stopped a 1999 Dodge Dakota with no license plate at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Huntsville Browns Ferry Road.

The Dodge was driven by Jerry Lee Lewis, 38, of Tanner, who ran from the vehicle to avoid apprehension, and the Trooper pursued on foot. Lewis was captured and charged with resisting arrest, second-degree assault and attempting to elude. The Trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Lewis had an active felony warrant for a probation violation with Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Nothing further is available at this time.
