Celebrating the life of Charles Lester Baker, Jr., age 85 who passed from this life to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at NHC of Sparta following an extended illness. He was a member of the Spencer Church of Christ.  Jr. was born in Spencer, TN to the late Lester and Athyne Maynard Baker on October 12, 1935. He was married to Sammie Hutcheson Baker for 62 wonderful years before her passing in September 2018. He devoted his life after retirement to caring for his loving wife following her many health issues. They were inseparable and truly shared a love and dedication to one another. Even after her passing he continued his daily visits to her gravesite as long as his health permitted. Jr. was also proceeded in death by his siblings: Carl F. Baker, Louise Davis, Glen Baker and Gail Daughtery.

He leaves behind his sons: Mike Baker and wife, Virginia and John D. Baker, Granddaughters: Whitney Young and husband, Floyd; Britney Shuster and husband Darron; Great Grandsons: Kaegan Shuster, Daxton Young and Lane Shuster; Special Granddaughters: Kyla Scharmer and Maddison Blaylock. Sister: Helen Savage and Brother: Joe Baker. Special Caretaker and longtime friend: Kathy Rogers. Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends also remain.

Jr. was an owner/co-owner of garment factories in Van Buren, Bledsoe, and several other locations in the Upper Cumberland area. He is fondly remembered by employees as not only a boss, but a friend. He enjoyed years of farming as a part time hobby, but his greatest hobby was his garden. He proudly shared his bountiful harvest with family and friends.

He was a man of stature, teaching by example and never placing himself in a league above anyone. He was a gentle giant to two little girls who thought he helped God hang the moon, as they grew and became mothers, he showed them yet again the depth of his love towards their sons. Those three little boys brought a lot of smiles to his face. Their time with him was short but they will forever be reminded about the man they called Pa.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 5-9pm and again on Friday, January 22, 2021, from 9am until time of the service at 1pm. R.C. Christian, Gene Brock and Bob McCoy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Spencer Town Cemetery, Spencer, TN.
