Mr. Holland was born in Meadorville, Macon County TN on October 24, 1928. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served proudly during the Korean War. Charles and Norma married on August 9, 1951 and raised their two sons, Eddie (Julie) Holland and Richard (Janie) Holland. He resided at Red Cedar Glen Assisted Living in Hendersonville, TN, but considered Greenbrier, TN his true home. He loved to fish, grew the most beautiful gardens and spent many hours on the back porch feeding hummingbirds and spending time with his family.
Papa Charles was known for his one liners, extensive trucker hat collection, working crossword puzzles and mastering puzzles at the dining room table. He retired from Yellow Freight Systems and loved watching football and basketball, especially UT Vols Ladies Basketball under the late Coach Pat Head Summit. He always loved to tell old stories and he had the best laugh.
His favorite topic was always his granddaughters Brea (Jonathan) Freeman and Alison (Josh) Harris, and 8 great grandchildren Anna (Jackson) Cook, Isaac, Luke, Maggie, Laniece, Mary, Joshua and Baden. He truly had a special bond with each of them and they always knew they were loved. Papa Charles had a way of making you feel like his day was truly brightened by just spending time together. He loved visits from family and swapping stories with the many sweet friends he made as they sat outside on the front porch at Red Cedar Glen.
He will be terribly missed by his family. A private graveside service is planned at a later date.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Red Cedar Glen Assisted Living, the amazing Dr. Anesa Willoughby and Dr. Matthew Yuill for providing comfort, care and a familiar face during such a sad time, and also the nurses and care team at Hendersonville Hospital.
