Gary Elvis Cupps Gary Elvis Cupps was called home January 14th, 2021, born June 27, 1952. He was the twelfth Child of Druie and Beulah Cupp. Gary was a lifelong resident of Empire, Alabama. He was a 1970 graduate of Dora High School. He was the self-appointed class historian keeping records of life events of every class member. The Ultimate “Elvis” fan, Gary kept the memory of Elvis alive until the day he passed. Gary amassed a collection of everything Elvis, including changing his middle name in 1985. To know Gary was to know Elvis if you didn’t know Elvis he would be happy to tell you all about him. He was most proud to have made 22 visits to Graceland. After a major life event in 1996, he rose above his limitations and created a card ministry to anyone needing a kind word or a scripture. His friendships reached far outside the boundaries of Walker County. Through many challenges he was upbeat, happy and rarely complained. His enthusiasm was contagious, he could make your worst day better! Gary loved The Lord, movies, reading, Andy Griffin, music, Walmart, Auburn and chicken and dressing. Upon his passing Gary was reunited with his parents Druie and Beluah Cupps; brothers, Robert “Kojak”, Cecil, William “Cooter”, Bodie, Roger and Johnny; sisters, Shelby Jean Gunter and Martha Reed. He is survived by his brothers Roy and Stanley; sister Mary May as well host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He loved his family and he loved life. The family would like to thank the Harbor Chase Staff, Cordova Health & Rehab, the staff at Lakeshore Therapy Department and UAB Palliative Care Staff for taking such wonderful care of Gary through his life. A graveside service commemorating his life will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 3pm in McCormack Cemetery. Gary’s lifelong friend, Rev. Joel Carden will officiate.
