Marian Lammers passed away on January 11, 2021. Mrs. Lammers was born Marian Janice Meissner on April 29,1924 to Albert and Anna Meissner in Huntingburg, Indiana. Marian was bright, well-liked and had an ear for music. She was proud to have been the head drum major for the Huntingburg High School Marching Band. Ms. Meissner graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1942. In 1944, she went to Washington D.C. to work as a clerk for J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI. On December 28, 1947, she married Donald E. Lammers of Huntingburg. They were happily married for 61 years. Mrs. Lammers was proceeded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Don, and her son-in-law, Stuart. The couple had four children, Linda Peterson Prowse (Steve), Janet Pursley, David L. Lammers (Janet) and Richard D. Lammers (Lisa), 6 grandchildren, Daniel Peterson (Sydney), Lauren Larson (Ben), Kristen Pursley, Leigh Ann Franks, Cody Lammers, Ashley Lammers and two great grandchildren, Niko Peterson and Ethan Larson.
Marian was a founding member of the United Church of Huntsville and a devoted choir member. She lived life on her terms and, as one friend put it, “Marian was the strongest woman he had ever known.” She loved nature, especially wildlife, flowers and sunsets. Marian collected sunsets. She had a twinkle in her blue eyes and a wonderful sense of humor. Fireworks and Alabama football gave her joy.
A loving mother and wife, Marian will be missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be held in Huntingburg, Indiana as well as Huntsville, Alabama when there is no longer a threat of COVID. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to Caring for Life Hospice at hhcaringforlife.org.
