Wendell Clyde Garner, age 74 of Boaz, Alabama died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Marshall Medical Center South, Boaz, Al.
He was born December 17, 1946 in Boaz, Alabama. He came to know the Lord as his Savior as a child and joined Westside Baptist Church.
After marriage he joined Red Apple Baptist Church and held different positions.
He later became a member of Bethsaida Baptist Church of Boaz. He loved the Lord. He loved his pastor and especially his humor. He came to love the members of the church and helped with many projects his wife got him into.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, with Boaz Carr Funeral Home Directing.
Rev. Mike Johnson and Rev. Tony Holcomb will be officiating. Burial will follow at the conclusion of service.
Pallbearers will include, Nick and Gage Garner, Boaz, Jason and Dawson Amos, Albertville and Bobby Scroggins, Boaz.
Honorary pallbearers include Taegan and Judsly Gallman, Boaz, Benjamin Amos, Powder Springs, Georgia, and Grady Clanton of Boaz.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Karren Amos Garner, daughter, Misti Garner Gallman, Boaz, grandchildren, Taegan Gallman and Judsly Gallman of Boaz, sisters, Betty (Henry) Zamora of Huntsville, Joyce Martin, Scant City, brother, Gary (Karen) Garner of Albertville, several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws, and many beloved friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Garner and Emma Lorene Garner, grandparents, Amos and Hannah Terrell and Buner Duff and Essie Mae Garner, siblings, Kenneth Garner of Boaz, Karen Dale Garner of Marion, Sue Malcove of Boaz and Randall Garner of Boaz.
Wendell was loved by many in the New Union Community. He loved cattle farming especially seeing those newborn with their antennas “tails” up in the air running through the pasture. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to cut, rake and bale hay and work all the farming equipment. He also taught them how to take care of the animals.
He loved his little girl even though he exhibited a strong hand at times. He was so proud of her when she performed at piano recitals and was in the color guard at the Boaz High School Band.
Wendell also had a long career as an automotive mechanic with his specialty being air conditioning and wiring. He gained many friends throughout the many years in this profession.
He loved planting and watching the garden grow. He wasn’t good at hoeing the garden, he often would think okra plants were morning glories and carrots were weeds, so he left the hoeing up to Karren. The thing he most enjoyed about the garden was being able to eat the fruits of his labor. Many people would stop and tell him how beautiful his garden was.
A special thanks to the staff of MMCS, Boaz, especially all the health care workers of the ICU who put their lives in danger while taking care of others.
