MONTGOMERY-Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday issued her twentieth supplemental emergency proclamation extending the Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order. This order extends until Friday, January 22, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
The other guidelines in the safer at home also remain in place.
Those includes social-distancing and sanitation rules for entertainment venues, athletic activities, schools, child care facilities, close-contact service providers and other businesses.
Senior centers remain closed except for meals the must be made available only through curbside pick-up or delivery.
Governor Ivey thanks Alabamians for their resilience during this pandemic. Thanks them for hanging in there during this trying time and thanking them for following the mask mandate.
Alabama is seeing 3,000 new cases of COVID-19 a day according Alabama State Health Officer Scott Harris. 
According to Harris if FDA approves use of the vaccine it should be in Alabama by next week and it will be the Pfizer will be the first vaccine issued and due to the cold storage requirements 15 hospitals across Alabama will administer the vaccine. The hospitals will be announced next week.
Alabama will receive 40,950 doses of the vaccine from Pizer and vaccination will be: Frontline workers first and then nursing home residents and caregivers the next week. Moderna will start shipping the following week. There will be more flexibility in administering this vaccine due to the need for less cold storage. More information about the schedule and administration of the vaccine will be released after FDA approval.
Phase one according to CDC would be Essential Workers, High Risk Medical Conditions and Adults 65 and Older.
Dr. Harris did say if FDA approved the vaccine he would without hesitation take the vaccine and have his family take the vaccine.
