Bryce Allen Murphy “slipped from the surly bonds of earth” and “put out his hand and touched the face of God” late in the afternoon on November 19, 2020. He had struggled with cancer since January 30 and was ready to go home to his Saviour. He was retired from Reynolds Metals and had his own carpentry business, Murphy Enterprises, in Virginia for a few years until he became ill with the same type of cancer in 2001. He fought that cancer for a year with chemo and radiation and then moved back to his hometown of Russellville, AL. He worked for a while at The Home Depot in Decatur, then joined the Carpenter’s Union and worked several jobs as a carpenter at numerous locations, especially Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant until retiring.

He and Sue survived the tornadoes of April 27, 2011 and finally moved to Lexington. They worship at the Lexington Church of Christ. Bryce graduated from Phil Campbell High School, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, and his Master’s degree from University of Arkansas in Little Rock. He was an airplane pilot and certified SCUBA diver. He loved to hunt, especially deer, and loved to garden. He used his multiple God-given talents in any way that he could find. He made the best chicken and dumplings and homemade pancakes his family ever had. He loved Jesus, his bible, God’s holy word, and his God.

Bryce is survived by his loving wife, Sue Murphy; his sons, Daniel Murphree of Norfolk, VA, Joseph Murphy of Russellville, AL; his daughter, Lauren Murphy Carter (Charles) of Charles City, VA; his step-sons Jason Mewbourn (Andrea), Adam Mewbourn (Stacey); and step-daughter, Amanda Mewbourn Whitson, all of Lexington, AL.
