Joyce Pryor

  Joyce Pryor, 79, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2020 after a long illness.

She was born in Orlando, Florida on July 25, 1941. After graduating from Cocoa High School in 1959, she married her beloved husband Peter Pryor Jr. on November 17, 1959. Following the wedding, they moved to Huntsville, where Peter was employed as an aeronautical research engineer with the Army Ballistic Missile Agency. They moved to South Carolina in 1969 on a two-year temporary assignment where, in addition to raising a family, Joyce spent time as a substitute teacher. On returning to Huntsville, she studied accounting and Interior Design. Joyce then became a partner in an interior design business where she remained for several years.

Joyce was an avid golf and tennis player and enjoyed traveling with her friends and teammates to various outings and tournaments around the country. She was an excellent bridge player and a competitive ballroom dancer, and earned many first-place pro/am trophies. After receiving her pilot’s license, she became a member of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots. Joyce enjoyed many outdoor sports, including skiing and ski biking, white water rafting, kayaking, and windsurfing. Although she tried rappelling and spelunking with Peter, she was not a fan of these activities. She was a fan of traveling by plane, cruise ship, or sailboat, and went on many trips with family and friends to interesting places all around the world.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Peter Pryor Jr. , her sister Tina Winnett, her son Peter Pryor III, her daughter Paige Pryor, son-in-law Steven Coul, Three grandchildren: Charles VanNorman, AprilDawn Bennett and Tim Pryor, and three great grandchildren: Johnathan Pryor, Liliana Pryor, and Charlotte Bennett.

Joyce was a loving wife and mother, a beautiful, generous person and is deeply missed.

Due to the pandemic, there will not be a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, please have a glass of wine, or a cup of coffee, and remember something nice about Joyce.
