Jack D. Callaway

Jack D. Callaway of Boaz, Alabama, passed into Heaven on November 17, 2020 at age 89. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Taylor and Myrtle Callaway of Birmingham, Alabama, where he also grew up. Jack served as a U. S. Army sergeant during the Korean War in the 24th Medical Battalion’s Ambulance Company. He later joined the Seafarer’s International Union as a seaman sailing for 26 years from New Orleans, Louisiana, where he lived for many years. He traveled all over the world developing many friendships in foreign countries. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Callaway. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Callaway Payne (Arthur) and many nieces and nephews. Jack is a member of the First Baptist Church of Boaz.
Jack had a great sense of humor and made us laugh often. He had a big heart for helping others. The family wishes to thank Jack’s wonderful caregivers for excellent care over the last four years.
A visitation will be held at Albertville Memorial in Albertville, Alabama on November 19, Thursday, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Graveside service and burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama on November 23, Monday at 1 p.m.
