Carolyn R. Dodson, 83, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday. Carolyn was born in Philadelphia, PA to Fredrick and Margurite Riess. The family moved to the resort town of Ocean City, New Jersey when she was age 10. Carolyn graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women in 1956. She met her first husband, Cecil Edwin Dodson, at Fort Dix, NJ and they married in May 1957.

Cecil had a career in the US Army Corps of Engineers so the couple lived in many places over their life together including the Panama Canal Zone. They had three children, Riess, Paul and Hope (married to Paul Henley). The family finally settled in Murfreesboro, TN in 1978. She also had three grandchildren, Olivia Dodson, Carmen Binder and Truman Binder.

During her life, Carolyn worked as an astrologer, speaker, painter and author. Carolyn graduated with a B.A. in Forensic Anthropology at the age of 60 from Middle Tennessee State University. Her husband died in 2009, and in 2013 she met her second husband, Phillip Grimm on Match.com. They married in July 2014 and settled in Huntsville, AL. They had a wonderful seven years together traveling to various art shows and listening to Jazz music. Carolyn had an art studio at Lowe Mill in Huntsville.

A private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
