Ronald "Ron" P. Shaffer Ronald “Ron” P. Shaffer, 64, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday. Born in Lowell, MA, his family moved to Huntsville in November of 1966 where he attended Huntsville High School. He obtained his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from UAH and his Master’s degree specializing in Radar from Southeastern Institute of Technology. He retired from Dynetics in the fall of 2019.

Ron was known for being a servant in the church, workplace, community and home. He served at Whitesburg Baptist Church for over 35 years in capacities including deacon, Life Group Department Director, security ministry, and choir member. He was active in Amateur Radio (W4VM), helping hundreds of people get their operating license and helping build radio infrastructure used to support tornado spotting in Huntsville. He served in the Green Mountain Volunteer Fire Department as well as US Army MARS at Redstone Arsenal. He and his wife Sandie enjoyed RVing with their daughters, and his favorite pastime was fishing on Lake Guntersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Shaffer and Marjorie Major Shaffer, and siblings, Robert Shaffer, Beverly Shaffer, and Richard J. “Jim” Shaffer. Survivors include his wife, Sandra “Sandie” A. Hirlston Shaffer; daughters, Emily B. Shaffer and Kelley A. Shaffer; sister, Mildred J. “Dawn” Shaffer Reynolds; and stepmother, Nancy Negele Shaffer.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 18 at Whitesburg Baptist Church Main Campus. The funeral will follow at the church with Darryl Craft, David Loyed, and Kenny Spain officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Russel Hill Cancer Foundation or Whitesburg Baptist Church Security Ministry.
