Edward DeWayne McAbee August 18, 1950 – November 13, 2020 DeWayne was a resident of Lawrence County. He was a Christian in all things; his love for his family, church family, and community. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elene, their three sons, and their grandchildren: Edward DeWayne McAbee, Jr.; Marlee, Samuel, Maria David Lynn (Jessica Bowling) McAbee; Lane, Mollie, Magdalyn Christopher (Ruth Ann Morgan); Scarlette and Elijah Brothers: John (Valarie) McAbee; Joe Marion (Carolyn) McAbee His greatest joy was time with his family, and in time spent caring for his cows and the kids’ horses, hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, trail riding, building, or the project of the day. His favorite sport was the sport the grandchildren were participating in at the time. He could, and did, build and repair everything. He easily slipped into what he called a “supervisor’s position” as his sons, daughter in laws and grandchildren continued the family activities and traditions. They tried to teach him electronics but he refused to go beyond his trusty flip phone. He began and ended each day looking at the sky. He especially enjoyed the night sky; the vastness, the beauty and the movement. This was his quite time with God. We probably won’t get up at 2am to see an eclipse or a meteor shower as he did but we will always remember him when the stars fill the night skies. Public work was to support his family and family activities. He did not want to be defined by it. He worked at Monsanto, was the original owner of Moulton Tire, and was a Lawrence County school bus driver. He was a deacon at Moulton Baptist Church who resisted the deacon dress code of the time; jeans it was. He was a hands-on person who enjoyed building projects and disaster feeding projects. He was the first CDL licensed church bus driver. A graveside service will be on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens.
