Douglas Ward Griffin Douglas Ward Griffin, 79, of Athens, Al. passed away peacefully November 7, 2020 at Athens Limestone Hospital surrounded by his family. Doug was a life-long resident of Athens. He is preceded in death by his parents, Haskel & Alene Griffin and his wife, Joyce (Mobley) Griffin and their three sons, Keith, Brian and Chris. He is survived by one brother, Billy G. Griffin (Ann), one sister, Connie Griffin Jordan (Steve), his three granddaughters; Heather Griffin Newberry, Brittany Griffin Sazzman, Heather A. Rohrer and four great-grandchildren.

Doug and his Father owned Griffin Tile and Plaster in Athens for many years. After Haskel passed away, Doug carried on with the business until his retirement. Doug always strove to provide the best of his experience and expertise to the highest degree. Doug enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and making things for others.

Doug was a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed their many years of fellowship. Doug had several very close friends, many life-long friends, that he loved as family. Their friendship & companionship was a rare blessing he treasured and that helped bring him comfort in life’s darkest moments. Doug was an adamant Alabama football fan and rarely, if ever, missed a game. He was an avid reader and loved working puzzles. Doug had a great sense of humor and he had a way of making everyone feel special. He was kindhearted and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by those of us who loved him and to know him was to love him.

Due to the unfortunate circumstances of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Griffin family will hold a private service. Our family would like to express our gratitude to all of you who have reached out to us with love, prayers and sympathy. We feel you are all with us in spirit. In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that a donation be made to a charity of your choice in Doug’s memory.
