Jessie Petermann Leonard

Born on April 3,1924 to Charles and Cora Petermann in in Tallahassee, Florida.

Died on October 24, 2020 peacefully in her sleep in Decatur, Alabama.

 

She was loved and will be dearly missed.   She was a very generous woman who never met a stranger and who supported her family, friends and many charities.

At 16 she entered Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University)  and graduated with a BS degree in Home Economics as a dietician. She later earned her Masters of Education.  She retired from the Decatur School System as a second-grade teacher, a job she loved. She loved to travel, read, work crosswords and enjoy time with family and friends. She was a long-time member and often officer of many organizations in which she enjoyed many friendships and worked tirelessly with and for:  Daughters of the American Revolution, Dames and Barons of the Magna Charta, Daughters of the American Colonists, and Colonial Dames.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Stephen V. Leonard who was a combat decorated fighter pilot veteran of WWII, and her brother Guerry Petermann of Quincy, FL.

 

She is survived by her sister Lorene Cosetino, four children: Kathleen Petersen (Phil), Nancy Holzwanger , Cynthia Montgomery (Tom), and Guerry Leonard, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
