Agnes Opaline Henson AllenAgnes Opaline Henson Allen, 90, of Huntsville, Alabama (formerly of Ardmore and Toney, Alabama) passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Born Sunday, September 7, 1930, in Madison County, Alabama, she was the daughter of Oronoco James Atlas Lethu Henson and Nona Adeline Dabbs Henson.

After her three sons reached school age, she spent 36 years working as a substitute teacher and then bookkeeper for the Madison County School System.

Outside of work, she loved fishing, gardening, and playing sports. The latter saw her competing on several softball teams well into her fifties. In her retirement, she found immense satisfaction in participating in all senior center activities including her favorite, Rook tournaments. She also took great pleasure in traveling through almost all of the continental United States with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Houston “J.H.” Allen Jr.; her eldest son, John Harvey Allen; two brothers, Verb Henson and Verm Henson; and five sisters, Theora Henson, Estelle Thomas, Sybil Blecker, Ruth Milam, and Joan Smith.

She is survived by sons, Greg Allen (Amy), Toney, Alabama, and Tim Allen, Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Jennifer Dreggors (John), Zachary Allen (Tana), Ashley Thomas (Caleb) and Jacob Allen; great-grandchildren, Liz Dreggors, Blair Allen and Cade Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Senior Center in Ardmore, Alabama.
