NW-SCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross congratulates the students on their accomplishment Tuesday (10/20) morning at Florence High School

FLORENCE-Florence City Schools (FCS) and Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) were able to witness the success of a program that started two years ago as seven Florence High School students were awarded welding certificates through the NW-SCC Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit program on Tuesday (10/20) morning.

NW-SCC and FCS partnered to offer Florence High School students the Early College Program that began in the fall of 2018.
“The great part of this program is that it gives students a career pathway early in their high school career,” said NW-SCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross. “All the certificates that were awarded to students are embedded into the Associate Degree program to give students milestones of success to encourage them to finish their degree.”
According to Florence City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jimmy Shaw, the accomplishments of these seven students are the embodiment of the vision for Florence City Schools. As he congratulated the students he explained, “Our district’s vision is Tomorrow…Today. You all are living, walking proof that we can partner with people to prepare you today for your futures of tomorrow.”
