Larry Gene Handley, 87, of Sipsey, passed away Friday, October 16th, 2020 at his residence.

A Graveside service was held at Sipsey Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, October 19, 2020. Wayne Williams officiated.

In 1953, he served for the United States Air Force in Korea, which was just after the Korean War, but when Korea was still a combat zone. Immediately after being discharged from the Air Force in 1957, he was hired by Alabama Power to work at the construction offices for Smith Lake Dam. Four years later, he moved to Birmingham and worked at Alabama Power’s main office downtown. He retired after more than 30 years of service. During retirement, he enjoyed helping people with their income taxes, genealogy, and collecting coins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie and Lorene Handley; brother, Donnie Wilburn “Wilk” Handley Jr; and nephew, Andy Handley.

He is survived by his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Handley; sister, Carol Mathews; as well as his nieces and nephews: Marty Handley (Donna), Gary Handley (Cyndi), Misti Lee (Todd), Joey Handley (Lynn), Melissa Lagrandeur (Gil), Dana Mullins (Mike), and a host of great nieces and nephews.
