Geraldine Holt Rushing passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020, from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. She was eighty-three years old. Born in Belmont, MS to Gustia Bridges Holt and Arthur Holt, Geraldine and her twin sister, Willadean, were the youngest in a family that included a sister, Madge Holt Pate and a brother, Thelton Holt. After high school graduation, Geraldine attended business school in Memphis, TN. Soon after her return to Belmont, she met David Rushing of Tishomingo. They were married in 1958, enjoying a fifty year romance that was only paused by his death in 2007. During those years, they lived in several towns in North Mississippi where they met lifelong friends that grieve with us today. They eventually settled down in Tishomingo where they built their home and raised the family. Geraldine was a hairdresser by profession and ran Gerry’s Beauty Salon for almost thirty years. Geraldine and David were active members in the community and were members of Tishomingo Baptist Church.

Geraldine was a fun loving, hard working, generous woman; a confidante, friend and supporter to those in need; a straight talking, pragmatic advisor to those in trouble; and a soft hearted love to her family. The disease of Alzheimer’s took her essence from us well before the Lord took her earthly presence, but we are grateful for every day we could be with her.

Graveside services will be Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m. at Tishomingo City Cemetery, Tishomingo, MS with Bro. Robbie Crane officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine and David had two children, Larry Rushing (Patty) of Prairieville, LA and Diane Barger of Baton Rouge, LA. The family has been blessed with three grandsons – Justin Rushing (Rachel), Josef Hensgens (Julianne) and Adam Hensgens and two great-grandchildren – Korra Hensgens and Wyatt Rushing. She is also survived by her twin sister – Willadean Christian; a niece– Judy Pate McMeans; two nephews – Charlie Pate and Doug Holt and countless nieces, nephews and “adopted” neighborhood kids!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Madge Holt Pate and a brother, Thelton Holt.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Alzheimer’s Association in Geraldine’s memory. Let’s find a cure on behalf of those that gave us the “why”.
