Laura Eugenia Ellis “Jean” Kimberly, 100, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center following a sudden illness. She was born on April 5, 1920 to Attorney Walter Benjamin Ellis and his wife, Gertrude Alsobrook. She married Perry Jordan Ellis in 1939 and spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker. As a lifelong resident of Iuka, she was often in later years an invaluable source of information about the town’s history and its former residents. A senior member of Iuka United Methodist Church, she humbly dedicated her life to loving and serving God and her church. She was sensible, strong-willed, and independent but also possessed an inquisitive nature and countered her seriousness with occasional flashes of mordant humor. She enjoyed studying scripture, solving puzzles, playing games, laughing with her loved ones, and tending to her cats. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Faulkner; her grandson, Mark Faulkner; three nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Segars clinic and hospital staff for their care and support throughout Jean’s myriad illnesses. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. A graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery is planned for the near future with Bro. Harrell Moore officiating.
