FLORENCE-On Tuesday, October 13 TNT Fireworks announced the loss of one of their own and issued this statement/tribute to Joel Anderson who passed away on Monday at his home.  Anderson who was Chairman of Anderson Media Corporation which included TNT was a Florence business and civic icon:

“Joel R. Anderson (1944-2020)
We are saddened by the passing of a member of the TNT Fireworks family, Joel Anderson. Joel had a profound impact on our company, and the fireworks industry as a whole.
Joel’s father, Clyde Anderson, started selling fireworks out of his newsstand in 1920. Joel entered the family business in 1965. In the late 80’s, the fireworks industry was facing great challenges with product safety and quality. With Joel’s leadership, the American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL) was formed. The AFSL inspects and tests fireworks before they are imported into the US to ensure they comply with CPSC and DOT standards. Joel was the first President of this organization and his visionary leadership has allowed for the growth and longevity of our industry.
Joel’s contributions went far beyond our industry as he held various leadership roles within the Anderson Companies and he was very active in many philanthropic and civic activities. His innovation, generosity, and compassion will inspire us to carry out our mission of bringing safe, family fun to our customers and our communities. We are forever grateful for your decades of leadership.
