NTP Reports Visitor Fatality Near Old Towne Overlook, Milepost 264

TUPELO, MS – On October 8, 2020, at approximately 7:00 am, employees of the Natchez Trace Parkway observed a Ford Ranger pickup in a ditch at the Old Towne Overlook, near Milepost 264 in Lee County, MS.

Employees looked and saw an unresponsive occupant in the vehicle.  Rangers from the Natchez Trace along with the Tupelo Fire Department and EMS personnel from the North Mississippi Medical Center immediately responded.  Once it became apparent that the occupant of the vehicle was deceased, personnel from the Tupelo Police Department and Lee County Coroner’s Office also responded to assist.

The occupant of the vehicle was identified as Bille Ray Foster, 59, of Tupelo, MS. Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle was involved in a crash but it is unknown whether the crash caused Foster’s death.

The collision is currently under investigation by Parkway Rangers and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. District Ranger John Hearne stated, “The Parkway appreciates the generous assistance from the numerous agencies who responded.”
