MONTGOMERY-Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday issued her eighteenth supplemental emergency proclamation containing an amended Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order. This amended order extends until Sunday, November 8, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
This is the second time the order has been continued since the original order was issued on July 16. This order was set to expire on Friday October 2. Governor Ivey cited the upcoming elections in November as one of the driving forces behind her decision to keep the order intact.
“I want everyone to (vote) and to be able to do it safely,” the Governor said and she also said the number of COVID-19 cases has declined since the order was put into place.
The Governor also announced changed in policies that limited visitors to hospitals and long-care term facilities, including nursing homes.
Effective October 2, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities may allow each patient or resident to be accompanied by one caregiver or visitor at a time.
