Funeral service for Mrs. Barbara Jean Woodard, age 82, of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 1 PM on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Higgins Funeral Home, with Bro. Michael McLemore and Bro. Jeff May officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens.
Jean was born on May 4, 1938 in Fayetteville, TN to the late Owen Little and Christine Ashby Askins. Jean was a long-time member and faithful servant in the Church of Christ in Fayetteville and Huntsville, AL. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell South early in her life, then became a devoted Homemaker. She later became an LPN serving many patients in the old Lincoln County Hospital and nursing homes in Fayetteville. She passed away on September 25, 2020 at Crestwood Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Stephen (Susan) Woodard of Brownsboro, AL, Gary Leon (Lorrie) Woodard of Athens, AL, and Scott Lynn (Tammie) Woodard of Athens, AL; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Brown of Fayetteville, TN. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woodard was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leon Woodard, and a sister, Roberta Smith from Moore County, TN.
Visitation with the family will be from 4 PM until 7 PM on Friday at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
