Elbert Edgar Mitchell Jr, fondly known as “Buddy”, age 85, met his Heavenly Father on September 11, 2020. He was surrounded by family in his home as he peacefully passed from this earth. Buddy faithfully served people in his beloved community for over 40 years as a service repair man for Marvin Morgan Furniture.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Edgar Mitchell SR and Lola Mae Mitchell, siblings Louise Kenton, Nancy Alexander, Faye Thrasher, Ruby Mitchell, Deborah Mitchell, and William Mitchell.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wanda, daughter Diana Zickos (Randy), son Alan Mitchell (Karen) and son Gary Mitchell (Ren), brother Ingram Mitchell, sister Maedean Bither, grandchildren Wayne Mitchell, Amanda Simpson (Steve), Anna Zickos, Christy Anders (Josh), and Melissa Godsey (Seth), and great grandchildren Haylie Mitchell, Brennon Mitchell, Austin Simpson, Alexis Mitchell, Rhett Anders, and Ella Simpson.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Mitchell, Steve Simpson, Josh Anders, Seth Godsey, Cody Brown, and Glenn Hand. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Posey, Randy Zickos, and Tom Thrasher.
Buddy was a faithful attender of both Nitrate City Community Church and Leighton Baptist Church. He was loved by all who met him and lived his life as an example to others.
A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Colbert Memorial Chapel with visitation 12:00-2:00pm and a memorial service immediately following, with pastor Eddie Osborn officiating. Graveside services will be held at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
