Gary Carter, 77 of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 at Madison Hospital. Mr. Carter was born on February 27th, 1943, to James William Carter and Jenny Louise Norman Carter.
Graveside services for Mr. Carter will be on Friday, September 4th, 2020 at 1:00pm at Bethel Cemetery with Jimmy Clark officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Clark Carter; daughter Amanda Carter Kemp (Aaron); grandson Chase Haggenmaker (Skye); great-grandson Slayden Haggenmaker; sister Kay Carter Agee (Elliott); and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; and brother Billy Don “Babe” Carter.
Mr. Carter retired from Dunlop after 28 years, was a firefighter in Decatur, and in the National Guard. He loved to restore old cars, playing the piano, and enjoyed singing. He loved kids, had a great sense of humor, and loved to help his fellow man.
