Flossie Miller Finley, age 100 of Athens, passed away Monday September 7, 2020, at Athens Health and Rehab.
Visitation will be held Wednesday September 9, 2020, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, at McConnell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday September 10, 2020, at 11:00am at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with Dr. Juaken Dumas officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chase Hargrove, James Townsend, Steven Loyd Clark, Tommy Davis, Matthew Clark, and Michael Clark. Honorary pallbearers are all of her grandsons.

Mrs. Finley is survived by her son, Don Finley; daughter, Caroline Wear; brother, Nelson Kennedy (Marie); 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; William Cecil Finley; parents, Jake and Caldonia Lanford Miller; daughters, Marie Clark, Glenda Moore, and infant Betty Jean Finley; brothers, Ellis Kennedy, and Buddy Miller; sisters, June Callahan, Louise Lee, and Monteen Richardson; and grandsons, Steve and Michael Clark.

Mrs. Finley grew up in Gurley, AL, picking and cutting cotton with her family. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church since 1948, and was always happy to share her faith. Mrs. Finley also taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She and her husband owned Finley Grocery Store for many years, and she worked at Athens Lingerie until she retired. Mrs. Finley was a well-practiced harmonica player, and played for the Senior Citizens Center until she was well into her 90’s. One of her favorite hobbies was making and painting ceramics. She was also a long time member of The Red Hat Society.
