Opening day for Publix – A full parking lot.

FLORENCE – Not in a long time has the heralded opening of a supermarket created so much eager anticipation. But this morning at 6:45am on Cox Creek Parkway, Publix finally opened its doors. The morning was clear and cold, but there it was… Publix.

Quad-Cities Daily contributor, Debbie Wilson was there, and authored her account.

As I parked at Publix in Florence this morning, yes..I said Publix in Florence…the 70’s song, “Celebration” was playing. Celebration indeed!  Shoals shoppers were doing a happy dance. After years of discussion, planning and months of building, the grand opening day has finally arrived! Our Christmas wish had come true!  Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock was there early to cut the ribbon and push a cart around the store!

A manager welcomes guests with a red carnation.

Store managers greeted the patrons with a red carnation and a bag of treats from their pharmacy. As I wheeled around the store, rich aromas greeted me at every turn. The deli snared me and then a short while later I was caught in the lure of the seafood market. I was transported to foreign countries where food was spiced up, diced up and made fresh or popped in the microwave.  Portion sizes abound as well, from small to large.

There are treats for tots, treats for dogs, treats for cats, treats for Santa and the elves. Shopping is a treat in itself.  Check it out!! Hours are 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. daily at 322 Cox Creek Parkway. (256)  718-1790.

We are happy to add Publix to our shopping mix in Florence and the Shoals. We have a variety of grocery offerings from the small stores that serve us so well to the more complex culinary offerings like Publix.

Welcome, Christmas, Welcome Christmas! And Welcome Publix!
