UPDATE:  As of 11:30 AM on Thursday, August 27 there are 112,794 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alabama with 1,990 confirmed deaths and 11,669 reported cases in the last 14 days.  14,005 statwide confirmed in hospital with 48,028 presumed recovered and 948,589 total tested.

MONTGOMERY-On Thursday, August 27, Governor Kay Ivey along with Alabama State Health Officer Scott Harris extended the state’s safer-at-home order.  Her seventeenth supplemental emergency proclamation containing an amended Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order. This amended order extends until Friday, October 2, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Governor Ivey says wearing the mask has dropped the new cases of hospitalized COVID-19 patients and this is evidence the mask ordinance.  Dr Harris said we have a deduction in COVID-19 numbers since the mask mandate has been issued in July.

Dr Harris reminded the citizens of Alabama to maintain all social distancing protocols and to use caution during the upcoming Labor Day Holiday. Dr. Harris also said to remember flu season is coming up and flu shots are available and everyone should get their vaccination against the flu.

The Governor cautioned people keep to the safer-at-home order and remain on point in the upcoming days regarding the mandates in the safer-at-home order.
