FLORENCE-On Monday, August 17 the Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning the homicide of 3-Year-Old Kaiden Garner:

“Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division have continued to work tirelessly throughout the weekend in an effort to seek answers to the tragic murder of 3-year-old Kaiden Garner. Our investigators continue to follow up on tips provided by members of our community. The information provided thus far, though limited, has been vital in progressing our investigation. We believe that there may be others within the community that have additional information beneficial to this investigation. We encourage those who do have information to please contact our police department. Our goal in this case is simple, to bring closure to the family of young Kaiden and bring those responsible for his murder to justice. We need your help. We need our community to be alarmed and frustrated at the killing of a 3-year-old child. And we need you to be willing to come forward with any information that may help our investigation. Kaiden deserves justice.

On August 12, 2020, Florence Police Department patrol officers responded to the North Alabama Medical Center, Emergency Room at 11:25pm, regarding the death of a 3-year-old male, Kaiden Garner. It was initially reported and believed that Kaiden’s death was possibly due to heat exposure. Medical records show that Kaiden was transported from the 1300 block of Carver Circle to NAMC, by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. Since that time, detectives have confirmed that Kaiden’s death was not in fact related to any type of injury caused by an exposure to heat. Based on the evidence gathered thus far and statements made we now consider this to be an active investigation into the Homicide of 3-year-old Kaiden Garner. Preliminary Autopsy Reports show that Kaiden’s death resulted from blunt force trauma.

Our investigation to this point has confirmed that Kaiden was visiting with his father in the days leading up to his death. Witnesses have confirmed that Kaiden, his father, and others were in the area of the 1300 block of Carver Circle on the night of his death. This area is a common gathering place for members of the community and it is believed that other members of our community may have been in the area and may have important information to our ongoing investigation. The communitt’s assistance is critical to this investigation. Our hope is that the community will understand the gravity of this case and do the right thing in coming forward, and speaking with our detectives.
