ATHENS – Tammy’s Fine Jewelry, located at 206 Market Street West in Athens, has been contemplating getting a store pet for a while. Owner Tammy Raney decided with lots of negative things going on right now across the world it was time to move forward with the adventure.

Raney said after careful consideration and lots of research she chose a hedgehog to be the store’s pet. Cotton the Hedgehog was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and is roughly eight weeks old. Cotton got its name after a Facebook voting contest. Cotton was chosen as the name because of its significance in Athens and Limestone County.

If you were wondering, the hedgehog is pampered every weekend and on holidays by store employees.

Raney says Cotton loves to snuggle with customers and his favorite snack is Cheerios.

“We have had several visitors stop by already to meet Cotton and when you see those children smile and get so excited it makes our hearts so happy,” said owner Tammy Raney.

Lastly, Raney says Cotton has no doubt taken over as Employee of the Month.
